Medela Pump-In-Style Breast Pump With Shoulder Bag

Updated on October 27, 2012

Why the Medela Pump-In-Style Is the Best Pump for Your Money

The Medela Pump-In-Style Breast pump is so easy to use, and allows you to pump quickly and efficiently.

Clean-up is a snap, and storing your pumped milk is safe and simple.

You can carry this pump around in public without it announcing to everyone that you're off to pump!

Why Choose the Medela Pump-in-Style?

The Medela Pump-in-Style is a compact breast pump that is easy to transport.

There are several different style bags that you can choose from that discreetly disguises the pump as a nice shoulder bag.

It is lightweight, and it comes with an insulated bag and ice pack to store the pumped milk.

You can easily pump both sides at once, in a short amount of time.

The Medela Pump-in-Style Is Not Just for Working Moms!

When I was working full-time with my first child, I pumped at work twice a day.

When my second child was born, I was with her full-time, so I was not pumping daily. I still pumped on occasion so that others could bottle-feed her.

I was especially thankful for this pump when I developed Mastitis (a very painful condition caused by producing more milk than the baby is drinking).

One of the most important things to cure Mastitis is to get the milk OUT of you. If the baby is not nursing enough to achieve this, you have to pump it out.

Some of the symptoms of Mastitis that I had included a fever and extreme fatigue. When you're feeling that way, you most certainly DO NOT want to be messing with a hand-pump or even an electric pump that doesn't work efficiently!

How to Use the Medela Pump-In-Style

Safely Store/Transport Breastmilk

The Medela Pump-In-Style includes an zippered, insulated compartment and a cooling pack that keeps the breast milk cold for hours.

I wasn't a fan of storing my milk in the fridge (unattended) on the other side of the building when I was working. I'm sure people would have left it undisturbed, but it still made me feel uncomfortable.

I found with the cooling pack (that you store in the freezer until you leave the house), the milk was still cold by the time I got home after working for 8 hours or so.

The ice pack molded nicely around the four bottles in order to keep them all cold.

Easy to Clean

The Medela pumps have easy-to-clean parts. I boiled everything before I used it the first time, and I didn't feel comfortable putting the bottles, etc. in the dishwasher (I was VERY anal with my first child about things like that!), but the parts ARE dishwasher safe.

I used warm, soapy water, a bottle brush and a bottle drying rack, and that was just fine.
